The Turn: Chapter Forty-Two

The Turn
Chapter Forty-Two
~The End of the Order – Part 2~
The Turn

Kaiba walked up to the high fence. He lacked his usual coat and wore casual black clothing. The guards who had been posted at the gate were incapacitated over to one side. He looked over his shoulder. Kiri stood not too far away, his ever loyal shadow. His brother, Lynx yawned and he crouched on the ground
Fang looked bored as stood behind the other. Shadow had an annoying smile on his face as he tried to get Fang’s attention, good or bad. Dr. Jekyll was his usual doom and gloom self. Somehow throughout all they had gone through, Jekyll had managed to hang on to that hat of his.
There was even a human in their company: Row Harper. When the New Order attacked the States the Detective was almost killed in the initial attack. He was rescued by Kiri as she looked for Kaiba. Harper was brought into the Underground Tower. He turned out he was a big help. There were several more Agents behind them ready for whatever came next.
After Kaiba and his family got away from the Island they went into hiding. From that moment, Sirius had started plans to right everything that had otherwise gone wrong. As more Agents got to the U.S. it was Kaiba’s job to give them their overall objective. The first meeting was in person and any interaction after that was through notes. Now, finally after a long year, it was time to free the world from the New Order’s grasp.
“Is everyone ready?” Kaiba asked.
Jekyll’s tone was monotone, “Why on earth wouldn’t we be? The ‘guards’ that we’ve run into so far practically knocked themselves out they were no trouble.”
Kaiba breathed heavily in an attempt to control his anger, “Let’s get going then.”
“I think I’ll sit here,” Lynx said, “I mean it doesn’t look like you’ll be needing m—”
“Lynx,” Kaiba stated.
Lynx got to his feet, “I’m up! When are we going to storm the castle?”
Kaiba rolled his eyes and sighed. A blade came from his arm and he cut down the lock on the gate. The gate swung open letting the Others in.

The driver looked at a television screen. He stood up straight when the camera went dark and static took up the screen. The blimp that the camera had been on had been shot down. He had thought that he had dealt with the Tower a year ago but it seemed that they had crawled out of the woodworks and were now causing trouble.
An alarm went off and the driver looked at another screen. The camera showed that the property’s perimeter had been broken and more Agents were piling through. He looked and several other cameras and they showed pretty much the same, the perimeter being breached. The driver narrowed his eyes and walked out of the room.
The mansion he walked through was surrounded by green fields and trees. It was Scar’s estate, inherited from his parents who died when he was only nine. The mansion was beautiful, large and spacious. There were other servants walking around the mansion going about their respective tasks.
The driver walked up the stairs to an upper lever. He walked up to a room with double wooden doors. The driver knocked and waited.
“Come in,” Scar called.
The driver walked in. He stopped suddenly when he saw Scar. Scar sat in the red chair that was seen in his announcements and wore a nice white suit. He looked at the driver with sad eyes. The camera that he was sitting in front of was off. When he did see the driver he sat up and tried to look more put together.
Scar smiled, “What can I do for you?”
“Are you alright, Scar?” the driver asked.
Scar looked at the camera, “I don’t know.”
The driver walked closer, “You don’t know?”
“I’ve just been thinking that maybe this wasn’t a good idea,” Scar confessed.
The driver looked at him, “What do you mean?”
Scar shrugged, “I don’t know. I’ve always wanted the New Order to exist ever since you told me about it after my parents died. It was like a dream of mine to see it take place. But now it seems things are worse off than they were before. Those things that I said in the announcement weren’t true and anyone with a brain can figure that out. I guess I never really thought what the New Order would really do to people if it ever took effect.”
“But you have, in essence, the entire world at your disposal,” the driver walked toward a cabinet, “How long have you had these thoughts?”
“I’m not sure,” Scar confessed, “I guess they wormed their way in over time. I’ve…I’ve been thinking of disbanding the New Order. I know it’s been a dream of yours but I’m sure you can see that this is hurting people.”
“Is that what you really want?” the driver asked.
“As one lifelong friend to another, I just want you to see what this is doing to the people,” Scar said.
“Lifelong friend?” the driver looked over his shoulder at Scar.
Scar looked at him, “I’ve known you all my life. I’ve always considered you a close friend.”
“Really?” the driver walked back to Scar, “I’ve only seen you as a means to an end. And right now, I can’t have you pointing fingers at me.”
There was a single gunshot that rang through the house. The driver took the gun with him. He showed barely any emotion as he walked out of the room and closed the doors behind him. The driver started walking down the stairs and out into the front yard. There was a black limousine in the round driveway. He walked toward the driver’s seat and stopped.
A knife was pressed against his throat. He turned his head slightly to see who it was. The brim of the other man’s hat covered most of his face. Only a thin smile could be seen of the man’s features. The driver stayed perfectly calm and still.
Jekyll turned to Kaiba, “What shall I do with him?”
“Please,” the driver stated, “I’m only the driver. The master is inside.”
Kaiba walked up toward the large doors of the mansion, “Leave him, we’re here for Scar only.”
Kiri followed Kaiba inside. Jekyll released the driver and tipped his hat as an apology. He then walked along side Shadow into the building. Lynx yawned and walked slowly after them. The driver looked to his left. Row looked back at him with suspicion in his eyes. Fang stood near him. Row started to walk toward the driver when Fang stepped between him and the driver.
“Let’s go,” Fang said quietly.
Row looked at him, “But—”
Fang walked on, “The others are already inside.”
Row paused a moment. He took one last look at the driver before following Fang. There was this feeling that he got from the man in the suit. Usually, his feelings or intuition, were right.
Inside they met little resistance. The staff were all frightened of their appearance and did little to stop the intruders. The team kicked down doors and basically trashed the place looking for any secret entrances. They split up into three teams. Jekyll and Lynx found the surveillance camera system.
Lynx sat in the chair and typed away at a keyboard. He wasn’t as good as his older brother but he could manage a security system such as the one that was before them.
“This shouldn’t take long,” Lynx said over his shoulder to his partner, “I should be able to access what the cameras saw the last few hours.”
Jekyll shrugged and leaned against the door way, “I could care less how long it took. Just get it done.”
Row barged into a room, gun raised. He looked left and right before proceeding into the room. Fang rolled his eyes as he followed while Shadow tried to stifle a laugh. In the time that they had known the detective, he always seemed to be trying to prove something. Understandable it you’re surrounded by Others with a firm grasp of their abilities.
“Clear,” Row said.
“My nose could have told you that,” Fang muttered.
Row looked at him, “Well, can your nose tell me when I even asked for your opinion?”
“No,” Shadow answered, “but I’m sure his bite can.”
They walked into what looked like a treasure trove of data both written and digital. There were computers in the center of the room with a row of filing cabinets lining the outside wall.
Row sighed as he looked around the room, “Can your nose sift through these papers?”
“No,” Fang looked at Shadow, “But he can.”
Fang left the room as Shadow stood in shock, “You want me to look through all this?”
“Remember about a year ago when I told you to read through those paper files?” Fang paused a moment and looked over his shoulder, “This is your punishment. And besides, I have better things to do at the moment.”
Shadow’s shoulders dropped, “You don’t let things go do you?”
Fang shrugged, “Have you ever seen a wolf give up its hunt?”
“Come on, Pretty Boy,” Row rolled up his sleeves, “If there’s one thing I’m good at its paperwork. You take that side, I’ll take that one. Divide and concur. Look I don’t care what you two are talking about but if you don’t start working I’ll shoot you, so come on!”
Shadow sighed and got to work.
Fang looked for Kaiba and Kiri. There were a pair of large doors, one of them was opened. Fang entered and found Kaiba standing in the room. He looked up from what he was looking at. Fang looked at the lifeless body in the chair. Kiri walked around and examined the body.
“He’s still warm,” she reported, “His killer just left.”
Fang shrugged, “Killer? How do you know he was killed? He probably just killed himself.”
“You don’t believe that, do you?”  Kaiba looked at him.
“Of course not,” Fang stated, “He was shot point blank in the forehead and the gun is nowhere to be seen. I’m not one for percentages but the chance of the gun falling from his hand if he committed suicide is right around a million to one.”
“You were being very generous with that number,” Kaiba noticed.
Fang shrugged, “I was getting bored with the problem and rounded. What’s interested me now is the question: who would kill the head of the New Order?”
“You know the answer to that too?” Kaiba almost smiled.
“Approximately .5 seconds before you did,” Fang looked at Kaiba.
Kaiba sighed, “Let’s hunt down that driver.”
Fang nodded, “I think he’s a little more than just the driver. I think he thought up the whole “New Order” thing and used the kid’s resources to get what he wanted.”
“We’ll see what the others can dig up,” Kaiba left the room. “Either way, you and I are going to have to catch him.”
Fang sighed, “I’m getting too old for this.”

  1. I didn't know Scar for very long....and I hated him for most of that time, but he was just a poor misled kid. I will miss him. Death to the driver. Btw, does the driver have a name? So Fang and them can put something other than driver of the headstone and all.

    1. Yeah, isn't that how it is sometimes? Someone on the outside can be mean but on the inside be just another frightened kid. :)

And no, the driver is just the driver kind of symbolizing how evil doesn't always have a name. Besides if Fang and the others killed him they wouldn't at all be any better than the driver. :D
